Community Food Services in the US - Industry Market Research Report
Community Food Services in the US
Community food service providers meet the needs of those with food insecurity and challenged access to food by collecting, preparing and distributing cooked and uncooked foods at community locations and homes. Industry revenue is countercyclical, meaning stressful economic times boost performance. Pre-COVID-19 was a period of declining revenue, partly in response to lower poverty and unemployment rates. COVID-19 changed the direction as increased poverty, unemployment and food insecurity boosted revenue. Individuals and families in need of services continued to seek help, while many sought assistance for the first time. Emerging from COVID-19, the economy increased employment, bringing a temporary reduction in revenues that immediately reversed to growth due to inflation pressures and government spending. Throughout this period of revenue volatility, industry-wide revenue has grown at a CAGR of 6.6% to $19.8 billion in 2023, when revenue is expected to account for 3.3% of revenue.
