World markets for textile machinery: yarn and fabric manufacture, November 2023
This report looks at general trends in the international yarn machinery and fabric machinery market and provides detailed analyses of various yarn machinery and fabric machinery sub-sectors. Shipments of textile machinery fell back in 2022 following a strong rebound in 2021. There was an increase in shipments of spinning machinery in 2022 but there were declines in shipments of draw texturing machinery, shuttleless weaving machinery and knitting machinery. Furthermore, shipments are unlikely to grow significantly in 2023 and 2024 - reflecting continued economic uncertainty and potential restructuring in the Chinese fabric industry as the fabric industries in major clothing producing countries look to expand in order to meet rules of origin set out in free trade agreements. In spinning, shipments of short staple spindles increased in 2022 to their highest level since 2014, shipments of long staple spindles shot up to their highest level since 2018, and shipments of open-end rotors rose to a record high. In draw texturing, shipments of double heater false-twist spindles fell but they were at their third highest level on record. Shipments of single heater false-twist spindles also fell but were at their second highest level on record. In the weaving sector, shipments of shuttleless looms fell to only their fifth highest level on record. In the circular knitting sector, shipments of single jersey machinery fell - although they were still at their second highest level since 2013 - and shipments of double jersey machinery declined to their lowest level since 2013. In the flat knitting sector, meanwhile, shipments of electronic flatbed knitting machinery declined to their second lowest level since 2015. A geographical breakdown shows that there were declines in shipments of seven of the nine major types of yarn machinery and fabric machinery to the textile industry in China. Elsewhere, by contrast, there were increases in shipments of eight of the nine major types of machinery to the textile industry in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, there were increases in shipments of seven of the nine major types of machinery to the textile industries in Pakistan and the USA and increases in shipments of six of the nine major types of machinery to the textile industries in Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
