Survey of the European denim fairs for autumn/winter 2024/25

The European denim fairs for the autumn/winter 2024/25 season were well attended although there were declines in the numbers of visitors to the fairs compared with the editions for the spring/summer 2024 season. However, the numbers of exhibitors at the fairs for the autumn/winter 2024/25 season remained more or less stable. Several key trends in design were presented at the fairs. In terms of colour, popular shades included green and grey in various tones and washes. At the same time, undyed denim fabrics in natural colour options were prevalent, and denim fabrics coloured using natural dyes were important. Aside from the key colours, the principal metallic at the fairs was silver. In terms of decoration, effects and finishes, there was a trend towards colourful accents, paint splash effects and marbling, and many of the designs of the collections on display featured large floral motifs, lace details and damask prints - having been influenced by baroque art. Other trends presented at the fairs included functional denim and stretch denim. Several exhibitors demonstrated advanced innovations in antimicrobial denim, and many exhibitors showcased stretch denim fabrics made using bio-based elastane and biodegradable materials. For other exhibitors, a major focus in the development of denim collections for the season was the potential of recycled materials. As such, a number of exhibitors presented denim collections which had been made using materials derived from pre- and post-consumer textile waste.
