Statistics: nonwoven fabric and technical textile production in Japan, 2024

This report includes statistical data and analysis of the Japanese man-made fibre and technical textile industry under the following headings: man-made fibre production and consumption in Japan; man-made fibre consumption for technical textile applications in Japan; and production of technical textiles in Japan. It also includes an outlook for the Japanese technical textile industry and contains a wealth of recently released data for 2023. Overall, man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2023 to its lowest level on record. In particular, there were declines in synthetic filament yarn production and synthetic staple fibre production although there was a rise in cellulosic fibre production. Mill consumption of man-made fibres for industrial textile production in 2022/23 fell to its second lowest level for several years, and consumption of fibres for tyre reinforcement in 2023 declined to its third lowest level since 1994. Meanwhile, nonwoven fabric production fell to its lowest level for at least 25 years. Admittedly, production of industrial textile goods increased—reflecting rises in the production of fishing nets and ground nets, and synthetic fibre ropes—but it was at its second lowest level in several years.
