Statistics: Nonwoven Fabric And Technical Textile Production In Japan, 2025

This report includes statistical data and analysis of the Japanese man-made fibre and technical textile industry under the following headings: man-made fibre production and consumption in Japan; man-made fibre consumption for technical textile applications in Japan; and production of technical textiles in Japan. It also includes an outlook for the Japanese technical textile industry and contains a wealth of recently released data. Overall, man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2024 to its lowest level on record. In particular, there were declines in cellulosic fibre production, synthetic filament yarn production and synthetic staple fibre production—excluding acrylic staple fibre, which saw an increase in production. Mill consumption of man-made fibres for industrial textile production fell in 2023/24 to its second lowest level for several years, and consumption of fibres for tyre reinforcement declined in 2024 to its third lowest level since 1994. Meanwhile, nonwoven fabric production fell to its lowest level for at least 25 years, although there was a rise in the production of nonwoven fabric for medical goods alone. Production of industrial textile goods, meanwhile, fell to its second lowest level in several years.
