This report provides vital data and analysis of trends in international trade in T-shirts. World exports of T-shirts rose to a record high in 2022 following an increase in the previous year, reflecting a strong recovery in retail demand for clothing. In the EU market, imports of T-shirts shot up in value to a record high while in volume they reached their third highest level on record. In the US market, imports of T-shirts rose in value and in volume to record highs in 2022. However, global retail demand for clothing was negatively impacted during the second half of the year following sharp increases in the cost of living which were brought about partly as a result of the war in Ukraine. Consequently, many retailers were left with more stock than expected and so they cut back on purchases of clothing in 2023 in a bid to reduce inventory levels. As a result, world trade in T-shirts is expected to have fallen back in 2023. In 2024, however, the tentative forecast is for trade to begin to pick up once again as the global economic situation improves.
