Mobile Computing & Portables Market Research Reports & Industry Analysis
Mobile computing devices are intended to be used during transport. A portable computer is one that can be moved from place to place easily but may or may not be functional while in transit. Portable computing devices typically run on batteries but are not laptops. These include tablet PCs, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and smartphones. While easy to move, they usually require some setup like a power source or network connection.
Tablet PCs can be both mobile and portable computers. Often shaped like a slate or notebook, they do not have a dedicated keyboard or mouse. All user input is done on a touchscreen by hand or with a stylus. These are very popular devices for their easy access and portability but are not frequently used for applications that require large amounts of typing due to the lack of physical keyboard.
Smaller than tablet PCs, a personal digital assistant (PDA) is a pocket-sized computer intended to supplement and synch with a desktop computer. PDAs provide access to contacts, notes, email, and more. The latest trend in PDA technology incorporates the features of traditional PDA devices directly into cell phones. These are known as smartphones and offer a wide range of applications and features.
