Home Networks Market Research Reports & Industry Analysis
Home networks are also used in order to share internet access provided by fiber optic lines, cable TV, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), and other ISP’s (Internet Service Providers). As internet access providers usually only supply residential homes with a single IP address, a router is usually used to share that IP with multiple devices inside the home. Routers are able to achieve this using NAT (network address translation). NAT allows requests to be made from multiple devices using the one IP address and when a response is received, the router is able to modify IP address information stored in the packets headers to send it to the appropriate device.
Home networks can be set up with wired and/or wireless technologies. More common today is the wireless setup as it is fast, convenient, and efficient. This technology allows devices to be moved more freely and can be easily secured against any unauthorized use.
