Home networks refer to the type of networks you will typically find in a residential home. Home networks are also known as HAN’s (home area network). Networks found in homes usually include a small number of devices including mobile phones, computers, and printers. Routers are able to achieve this using NAT (network address translation). NAT allows requests to be made from multiple devices using the one IP address and when a response is received, the router is able to modify IP address information stored in the packets headers to send it to the appropriate device.

Home networks can be set up with wired and/or wireless technologies. More common today is the wireless setup as it is fast, convenient, and efficient. This technology allows devices to be moved more freely and can be easily secured against any unauthorized use.
