Automotive Roller Tappets Market Forecasts to 2028 – Global Analysis By Product Type (Mechanical Roller Tappets, Hydraulic Roller Tappets, Low-Torque Roller Tappets), Vehicle Type (Commercial Vehicles, Passenger Cars), and By Geography
According to Stratistics MRC, the Global Automotive Roller Tappets Market is accounted for $7.60 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $10.07 billion by 2028 growing at a CAGR of 4.1% during the forecast period. Automotive roller tappets also recognized as valve lifter or cam follower. It is small equipment interposed among valves or the valve lifting mechanism and the cam shaft lobe, depending the engine design requirements. These tappets are components in an internal combustion engine that are essential to the proper working of a vehicle. It is essentially a cup that provides housing to valve stem and valve return spring, and imparts the linear motion projection to component.
Market Dynamics:
Driver:
Proliferating adoption of variable valve timing (VVT) or dual VVT
High recital automobiles and racing cars find substantial application of VVT technology. It enhances the performance through variating the valve timings and changing the duration of the valves when the engine is in operation. Incorporation of VVT and lift electronic control (VTEC), which is an advanced vehicle technology, allows integration of multiple camshafts through electronic or mechanical linking systems. This in turn also enhances the efficiency of the engines and performance through increasing the revolutions per minute (RPM). Owing to its critical applications in camshafts, increasing adoption of VTEC or VVT is expected to drive the automotive roller tappets market growth through the forecast period.
Restraint:
Increasing sales of electric and hybrid vehicles
The growing demand for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles is one of the major factors hampering the growth of the automotive roller tappets market. Electric vehicles offer great potential to significantly reduce air pollution, greenhouse gas, and other hazardous gas emissions. These electric vehicles do not require assembly of valves and tappet to enhance its engine performance. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the landmark Paris Agreement around 600 million electric vehicles will be on roads worldwide by 2040, to limit global warming to below 2°C (3.6°F). The number of electric vehicle was pegged at 2 million in 2016. In the U.S., around 160,000 units of EV were sold in 2016, with an increase of 37% from the previous year.
Opportunity:
Increased adoption of HFTC over the conventional cam shaft
High recital vehicles or racing car engines require high RPM, a standard mechanical camshaft that inadvertently impacts the output capacity of the engine. Thus, camshaft manufacturers are adopting new methods and technologies that help in converting the conventional mechanical movements of the camshaft to dynamic cam rotations as per the engine requirement. Therefore, automakers are inclined towards Hydraulic Flat Tapper Camshaft (HFTC), a camshaft used in the high-performance vehicles. Moreover, the HFTC provide 6,500 rpm, which in turn help to provide high efficiency to the engine as compared to conventional camshaft. This factor has led to increased adoption of HFTC over the conventional cam shaft.
Threat:
Challenges of automotive roller tappets
The automotive tappets are not used in hybrid or electric vehicles and thus, their popularity may serve as a major challenge for the automotive roller tappets market in the next couple of years. Besides this, various impositions on eco-friendly automotive parts that promote cleaner and smaller combustion engines may also cause major hindrance to the overall growth of the market. Nevertheless, the increasing advent and rising popularity of machined tappets may turn tables and attract high revenues and the decline in the number of automobiles is estimated to directly affect the global automobile tappet market.
The mechanical roller tappets segment is expected to be the largest during the forecast period
The mechanical roller tappets segment is estimated to have a lucrative growth, due to its design simplicity and good performance over the next few years. Mechanical roller tappets are bearings that have a metallic shell with rollers placed inside them. It consists of the cylindrical rod incorporated with tappet at the one end. The design of this bearing allows the body to rotate freely around the axis, but at the same time helps in its correct position by means of several small balls or tapered pins located on either side of the main rotating mass.
The commercial vehicles segment is expected to have the highest CAGR during the forecast period
The commercial vehicles segment is anticipated to witness the fastest CAGR growth during the forecast period, due to the growth of the commercial vehicles which can be attributed to the improving business environment for fleet operators and a rise in demand from the construction and mining sectors. Automotive roller tappets are used in commercial vehicles which have to perform the task of opening and closing valves. This makes it easier for them to start, stop or change speed by allowing oil into their cylinders. Automakers are also focusing on commercial vehicles. Emerging economies like India and China will be critical for commercial vehicle production ramp-up. These vehicle manufacturers are attempting to minimize overall cost of their vehicles.
Region with highest share:
Asia Pacific is projected to hold the largest market share during the forecast period, due to the demand from the automobile sector in countries like India and China. High demands for automotive production in major Asia Pacific economies that include prominent countries such as China, India, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand are expected to provide substantial growth prospects over the next few years. Moreover, establishment of production facilities in these regions by the major automobile industry participants that include General Motors, Daimler, and Volkswagen are expected to provide strong growth prospects for automotive roller tappets market growth.
Region with highest CAGR:
North America is projected to have the highest CAGR over the forecast period, owing to expanding SUV adoption, rising demand for high-performance vehicles, and the substantial increase in automation in various industries. The increased investment for the development of commercial vehicle is expected to result in the growing use of automotive roller tappet in the vehicle system. Mexico is quickly establishing itself as a key North American automotive production base. The country's automotive sector is drawing major investments because to favorable government regulations and tax advantages.
