2018 National Instructional Materials Adoption Scorecard and 2019 Outlook
Instructional materials adoption is a critical factor for education publishers to understand. One reason the adoption market has been crucial to publishers’ business plans is the almost guaranteed demand created when states approve a list of instructional materials programs that school districts then purchase.
Simba Information’s 2018 National Instructional Materials Adoption Scorecard and 2019 Outlook provides information on the PreK-12 education landscape in which instructional materials adoptions take place, offers background on the adoption process, and examines in detail the results of specific state adoptions Simba tracked in 2018. Simba also previews the landscape of and trends in instructional materials adoptions in 2019 and beyond.
Specifically in 2018, one of the low points in the adoption cycle, Simba focused on the K-12 science adoptions in Florida and Tennessee and K-8 social studies purchasing in California. Sales in North Carolina, where schools continued to buy primarily science and social studies in the absence of new adoption, also were provided.
The report also discusses changes affecting the adoption process and includes the annual publisher scorecard and a state-by-state calendar of adoption market opportunities from 2019 through 2022.
For this report, Simba conducted exclusive research in these adoption states, compiling data from state agencies and individual school districts. The data and analysis provided in this report will help education publishing companies build effective strategic plans and navigate market shifts
