Survey of Lawyers at Major Law Firms, Use of Law School Libraries
This study looks at the incidence, frequency and type of use of law school libraries by lawyers from major law firms. The report helps its readers to answer questions such as: how many and which lawyers use their old law school library’s online assets? How many use their old law school library’s print resources? How many actually visit law school libraries? Who uses law school libraries at law schools that they did not previously attend? For which resources do lawyers at major firms use law school libraries? How often are they using these resources? We asked: Since you graduated have you ever used the online collections of your law school library?
15.28% of respondents had done so. Use was greatest by attorneys aged 39 and under and lowest among those aged 60 or over. 18.54% of females had used the online collections of their old law school library while this was true for just 8.97% of males in the sample.
Use was far higher by graduates of medium ranked rather than the highest or lowest ranked law schools; for graduates of top 20 schools, only 9.24% used the online collections of their old law school vs 26.67% of those who attended a top 20 to 75 school.
