Survey of American College Students 2022, Interest in Degrees & Careers in Education
A majority of 58.95% were not at all interested while 10.55% had very little interest and 11.56% were somewhat interested; 6.28% were interested and 4.58% highly interested. Students from the South were the most often highly interested and 6.3% were vs, only 4% of those from the Midwest and 3.7% from the West, for example. Cloe to 16% of students from the most religious backgrounds said that they were highly interested in high school education, much higher than for less religious students. In addition to those already studying education, of whom nearly a third were highly interested in teaching in high school, students in performing arts, fine arts, media/communications, English and History/Classics also showed a lot of interest in high school instruction. It was also an area in which Hispanic students showed a great deal of interest: more than 16% were either interested or highly interested.
