Survey of American College Students 2022: Interest in Nursing and Other Healthcare Professions
Students in the sample attending doctoral level universities were much likelier than those attending research universities or masters level or BA institutions to apply to a graduate nursing program. More than 15.3% of students at doctoral level institutions thought it likely or highly likely that they would apply to graduate nursing program. This compares do only about 6.2% of students from research universities, very high activity level, or only a bit more than 2% of those from BA level institutions.This study presents highly detailed data on levels of student interest and career intentions for RN’s, MS, BS and Doctoral studies in nursing, with data for interest in each specific degree; the study even includes specific data on the demographics of students interested in a nursing degree as a second undergraduate degree. In addition, the study presents specific data on occupational therapy/physical therapy and kinesiology, and public health. The study helps its readers to answer questions such as: which students are the most interested in occupational and physical therapy? How likely are they to apply to graduate school in this area? How do students view the economic outlook for the nursing profession? Which groups defined by region, income level, race or ethnicity, gender, religion are most interested in nursing? Or public health?
