Analysis by Region - North America - US

Treasury yields climbed steadily throughout this past week as bearish data caused Fed rate cut expectations to shrink, supply pressures weighed, oil prices rose, and technical support levels failed. Three-year through seven-year yields rose more than 25bps as of early Friday afternoon, leading the selloff. Equities were lower, but the losses were modest considering the extent of the rise in yields. The Nasdaq was down more than 0.7% for the week, but the S&P 500 Index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average were only slightly more than 0.1% higher. The rise in yields and shifting Fed expectations were supportive for the dollar, which rose 0.8% on the week, its largest gain in eight weeks.
