Description

The economic headwinds that rocked Malawi in 2025 have persisted, battering the economy. Faced with depleted FX reserves, an overvalued currency, severe funding shortfalls, high inflation, and mounting external debt obligations, the Malawian government will have no choice but to devalue the kwacha in Q2 2026. As such, we project that the end-of-period exchange rate will increase to MK2,444.12/$ in 2026 from MK1,732.36/$ in 2025.
