After a tumultuous period, Kenya's political and economic landscape is stabilising. The most significant event to make headlines this past month has been the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The deputy president was charged with violating the Constitution, breaching judicial independence, breaking his oath of office, making inflammatory public statements, and undermining the National Intelligence Service. In Mount Kenya, Mr Gachagua’s home and the most populous voting bloc, his allies may feel betrayed given his support for President William Ruto in the 2022 election. This could potentially embolden future opposition against Mr Ruto.
