Analysis by Region - Emerging Markets - Botswana
Description
The rebound in real GDP growth in the third quarter of 2025 should not be mistaken for a recovery in Botswana's macroeconomic prospects. Diamond prices remain in the doldrums, while De Beers's production is expected to have slumped again in Q4 2025. Meanwhile, diamond output prospects are grim, with the Botswanan government stating that its diamond inventories are nearly double its allowable level. We still think the landlocked economy contracted in 2025, while we have lowered our medium-term growth projection.
