We have raised our 2022 GDP growth forecast to 5.3% from 4.6% previously, an improvement from 4.9% in 2021. GDP rose by 1.6% q/q in Q4 2021, which implies a stronger-than-expected carryover into 2022. Moreover, the socialists’ unexpected majority win is also positive for near-term growth. It will simplify the government formation process, speed up approval of the 2022 budget, and facilitate Portugal’s implementation of its recovery and resilience plan and the unlocking of EU funds.
