The Czech Republic Road Freight Transport Market size is estimated at USD 6.68 billion in 2024, and is expected to reach USD 7.31 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 1.83% during the forecast period (2024-2029).
The logistics and supply chain market is changing and facing new challenges that were not recognized a few years ago, such as low industrial vacancy rates, labor shortages, and the approaching peak of the economic cycle. Many companies are already meeting these challenges, or they at least recognize the strong need to increase investments in technology and innovation, along with enhancing the volume and quality of employee training.
The number of light commercial vehicles and buses in the Czech Republic also increased. In terms of deliveries, their number increased by 12,464 cars to 587,186 light commercial vehicles. The number of buses in the Czech Republic increased by 262 units to 21,705 cars, while their average age is similar to that of passenger cars (14.51 years).
The truck segment in the Czech Republic became slightly thinner, falling by 602 to 186,881 trucks.
The reducing in the number of trucks manufacturing also impacts the logistics industry with shortage of trucks. Overall, the Pandemic has led to the short-term shortage in the road freight market for trucks, while there is a long-term shortage of drivers in the country.
Domestic transportation performed by the Czech carriers is increasing in terms of volume. The situation is partly saved or alleviated by domestic transport, which, on the contrary, is at the highest level in history.
In 2018, it reached 23,543 million metric ton-kilometers. Only for the second time, it surpassed international transport, in terms of its volumes, and recorded a Y-o-Y growth of 7.5%.
Therefore, the growth in domestic transportation conducted by the Czech companies is probably due to the fact that the carriers who are being pushed away from international transport are increasingly concentrating on the Czech Republic, and are attaining success in the process.
International transport in the Czech Republic is significantly taken over by carriers from other European Union countries. Domestic transport companies, thus, lose orders. As many as half of them are currently at a loss, some are leaving the market altogether. The market concentration is expected to reduce as more and more international players are taking a higher share in the trucking business.
