Global SAR UAV Market Overview and Forecast 2023-2029
The Synthetic Aperture Radar Market size is estimated at $5.21b in 2024 and is expected to reach $8.80b by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 11.07% during the forecast period (2024 - 2029).
Description and usage of UAV with SAR:
When used in UAV applications, SAR is typically mounted on the underside of the UAV with a 180-360 degrees field of view. SAR has the following 4 basic modes: Stripmap, Spotlight, ScanSAR, and Staring Spotlight. The Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) can also be added to SAR.
Its primary role is wide-area surveillance. SAR in conjunction with GMTI, also enables a cueing function, and when targets are detected, can cue either the inbuilt EO/IR payload or another ISR asset.
We have found and described 14 cases of UAVs with SAR usage from 2004 to 2023. These include drone procurement by armies, used by volunteer organizations in rescue missions, and combat usage.
We found and described 6 SAR manufacturers with 12 SAR models and 39 companies that manufacture UAV and UAS systems with available SAR payloads. Among them: SARAero, MetaSensing, Raytheon, Imsar, Meteksan Defence, Aselsan, Israel Aerospace Industries, Ukrspecsystems, and others. Most of the headquarters are allocated in the US.
