Global Rose Oil Market Research Report 2023-Competitive Analysis, Status and Outlook by Type, Downstream Industry, and Geography, Forecast to 2029
Rose oil is an essential oil extracted from the petals of roses through extraction processes such as steam distillation, solvent extraction, or supercritical carbon dioxide extraction.
Market Overview:
The latest research study on the global Rose Oil market finds that the global Rose Oil market reached a value of USD 36.26 million in 2022. It’s expected that the market will achieve USD 58.57 million by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 8.32% during the forecast period.
Limitations
The picking of roses requires a large amount of labor, and the harvesting time is short, affected by natural factors such as weather, and long-term labor shortage, which will limit the development of the rose oil industry.
In addition, due to the low content of essential oils in fresh rose petals, the rose oil industry produces large amounts of waste every year. Most of the method of adding value to rose waste is still on a laboratory scale. The potential of industrial waste from rose oil has not yet been fully explored and further research in this area is needed. Nowadays, the society advocates green environmental protection, so from the perspective of environmental protection, this also limits the development of the rose oil industry.
Opportunities
Bulgaria is the country most suitable for growing high-quality rose oil because of its unique geographical location and climatic conditions. Its rose oil production, quality and export volume rank first in the world. Rose oil is widely used in precious perfumes, spices, pharmaceuticals and food additives. Due to problems in raw materials, production technology, and incomplete industrial chains, there is a shortage of markets in various regions.
However, the increased demand for downstream applications is driving the downstream market. The wide use of rose oil is conducive to people's health and the increase in disposable income, which is conducive to the development of the rose oil industry.

Segmentation Overview:
As for product types, the Steam Distillation segment held the largest market share in 2021.
Steam Distillation
Steam distillation is a special type of distillation (a separation process). Steam distillation is employed in the isolation of essential oils. In this method, steam is passed through the plant material containing the desired oils.
Solvent Extraction
Solvent extraction, also known as Liquid–liquid extraction or partitioning, is a method to separate a compound based on the solubility of its parts. This is done using two liquids that don't mix, for example water and an organic solvent. In this process one of the components of a mixture dissolves in a particular liquid and the other component is separated as a residue by filtration.
Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction
Supercritical carbon dioxide is used as the extraction solvent for creation of essential oils and other herbal distillates. Its main advantages over solvents such as hexane and acetone in this process are that it is non-toxic and non-flammable. Furthermore, separation of the reaction components from the starting material is much simpler than with traditional organic solvents. The CO2 can evaporate into the air or be recycled by condensation into a cold recovery vessel. Its advantage over steam distillation is that it operates at a lower temperature, which can separate the plant waxes from the oils.
Application Overview:
By application, the Cosmetics segment occupied the biggest share from 2017 to 2022.
