Global Lab Consumables Market Research Report 2023-Competitive Analysis, Status and Outlook by Type, Downstream Industry, and Geography, Forecast to 2029
Laboratory Consumables are equipment that only have limited use, as in it can be used until it is 'run out' and then must be disposed of. The types of consumables include but not limited to pipettes, tubes, tips, cuvettes, dishes, gloves, masks, cell culture consumables, flasks and more.
Market Overview:
The latest research study on the global Lab Consumables market finds that the global Lab Consumables market reached a value of USD 18379.06 million in 2022. It’s expected that the market will achieve USD 31543.05 million by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 9.42% during the forecast period.
Epidemic situation affects the normal operation of the industry
The raging COVID-19 has plunged the global economic environment into depression. The influence of COVID-19 on lab consumables industry will involve all major links and entities in the industrial chain. The management efficiency of the company declined, commuting was hindered, production plans were hindered, and the company's development strategy and marketing methods were forced to adjust. In addition, during the COVID-19 period, the logistics speed slowed down or even stopped, and the supply of raw materials for lab consumables production was tight. The company's production is limited to some extent, and the production of related enterprises in the hardest hit areas is greatly affected. After the epidemic is over, it will also face the financial pressure of rising costs caused by the shortage of raw materials.
The epidemic has led to an increase in the demand for laboratory consumables
Under the influence of the epidemic, clinical laboratories have experienced major technological advances. With the in-depth research and development in the field of disease pathogenesis and personalized medicine, advanced diagnostic methods and tests are being widely implemented.
The epidemic situation in COVID-19 has led to an increase in terminal demand, and the demand of laboratory consumables business has been increasing in recent two years. The demand for epidemic prevention products such as masks and protective clothing will be relatively rigid. Culture and Transport Media, Gloves, Swabs, Pipettes, Pipette Tips, and Collection Tubes are in short supply.
Increased downstream market demand
With the development of science and technology, especially the continuous improvement of medical level, new medical technology is changing with each passing day, especially the development of laboratory medicine plays an increasingly important role in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of some diseases. At the same time, more and more attention has been paid to the safety and convenience of the medical process. In the related tests and experiments, the demand for consumables is increasing, and the corresponding quality requirements are also getting higher and higher. Only the single laboratory consumables of vacuum blood collection tubes are used in developed countries, about 6 pieces/person per year. With the increasingly prominent role of inspection technology in the medical field, cutting-edge medicine such as precision medicine and targeted therapy can't do without medical inspection. The increase of downstream market demand promotes the development of Lab Consumables industry.
Intense market competition
With major manufacturers and suppliers in the lab consumables industry competing globally, the intensity of competition within the lab consumables industry has increased. Meanwhile, the local vendors in developing nations are providing tough competition to the global players based on product pricing.
At present, there are many participating enterprises in the lab consumables industry. In the future market competition, if manufacturers fail to surpass their competitors in terms of product quality, sales channels and R&D strength, they will be unable to maintain their existing competitive position in the lab consumables market and lose their original market share, and there will be a risk that the operating performance of manufacturers will decline.
Region Overview:
North America dominated the Lab Consumables market in 2022, with a market share of 36.78%.
Company Overview:
Thermo Fisher is one of the major players operating in the Lab Consumables market, holding a share of 13.01% in 2022.
Thermo Fisher
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is the world leader in serving science. Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. develops, manufactures and sells a range of products. The Company operates through four segments: Life Sciences Solutions, Analytical Instruments, Specialty Diagnostics, and Laboratory Products and Services.
MilliporeSigma
Manufacturer of chemicals & bio-chemicals. The company provides organic chemical products, kits and services which are used in scientific research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, the diagnosis of disease and in pharmaceutical, diagnostics and high technology manufacturing.
Segmentation Overview:
As for product types, the Cell Culture Consumables segment held the largest market share in 2022.
Pipettes
A pipette is a laboratory instrument used to measure out or transfer small quantities of liquid, in volumes of milliliters (mL), microliters (L).
Tubes
A tube is a common piece of laboratory glassware consisting of a finger-like length of glass or clear plastic tubing, open at the top and closed at the bottom.
Tips
Pipette tips are small, disposable tips that are made of molded plastic. Shaped like cones, a scientist attaches a pipette tip to the end of a pipettor and then uses it to transfer the liquid. The liquid used in the pipette tip is measured in microliters (L), or one-thousandth of a milliliter (mL).
Cuvettes
A cuvette is a type of sample holder for liquid samples. Often, they are made of plastic, borosilicate glass, or quartz.
Cuvettes also come with two or four polished sides. Polishing the sides allows for maximum light transmittance through the cuvette sides. For absorption experiments, the light passes through the sample linearly, so only two sides need to be polished. For scattering and fluorescence experiments, the signal is collected at 90 to the light beam, so four sides need to be polished.\Polishing the sides allows for maximum light transmittance through the cuvette sides.
Dishes
A Petri dish is a shallow transparent glass or plastic cylindrical lidded dish, used to contain a thin layer of agar on which to grow bacteria and fungi.
Gloves
Skin contact is a potential source of exposure to toxic materials and biohazards. It is important to wear the right glove for proper protection.
Wear gloves protect against skin absorption of chemicals, chemical burns, thermal burns, lacerations, and cryogenic liquid exposure. These gloves protect user while working with germs, pathogens, or other potentially hazardous samples.
Masks
Masks do not remove all particles. They are approved by National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health for use only when contamination is below the permissible exposure limit of hazardous materials. They are not to be used for large spills. When contamination exceeds permissible levels, respirators should be used. Masks should be worn when making solutions and cleaning up small spills.
Cell Culture Consumables
The portfolio of Cell Culture Consumables includes a broad spectrum of products ranging including Tissue Culture Vessels, Liquid Handling Products, Solution Storage Bottles, etc.
Flasks
Flasks can be used for making solutions or for holding, containing, collecting, or sometimes volumetrically measuring chemicals, samples, solutions, etc. for chemical reactions or other processes such as mixing, heating, cooling, dissolving, precipitation, boiling (as in distillation), or analysis.
Application Overview:
The market's largest segment by application is the segment Pharmaceutical, with a market share of 24.76% in 2022.
