Global Data Center Liquid Immersion Cooling Market Research Report 2023-Competitive Analysis, Status and Outlook by Type, Downstream Industry, and Geography, Forecast to 2029

Liquid Immersion Cooling infers to the dissipation of heat generated in hardware using a thermally conductive dielectric liquid. Liquid Immersion Cooling is used at data centers, mainframes, and desktop computers. Advantages of this cooling type include up to 99 percent less energy consumption & lower maintenance costs as compared to other cooling types, and noise-free operation.

Market Overview:

The latest research study on the global Data Center Liquid Immersion Cooling market finds that the global Data Center Liquid Immersion Cooling market reached a value of USD 1131.94 million in 2022. It’s expected that the market will achieve USD 5642.58 million by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 30.7% during the forecast period.

During the COVID-19 global pandemic, the demand for internet access has grown rapidly.

The data center is a universal support technology in the fields of the Internet, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Since the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918, the world has not experienced such a deep public health crisis that caused economic and social chaos. The measures taken to suppress the virus have almost stagnated the global economy and affected many aspects of the daily lives of individuals and businesses. This also makes us all aware of the absolute importance of the Internet and Web-enabled personal and business software platforms for communications and business transactions. As people all over the world stay at home, the demand for Web-based services has increased dramatically. Under this circumstance, the demand for data centers becomes strong, and more and more data centers are operating under high load. In order to provide better network services, better heat dissipation has become the choice of many data centers. Therefore, we judge that under the influence of COVID-19, the global Data Center Liquid Immersion Cooling industry will maintain a state of rapid development.

Strength

Data Center Liquid Immersion Cooling is a viable and more energy-efficient alternative to traditional air cooling.

Weakness

Two-phase immersion cooling systems are a bit more complex in their engineering and present higher up-front costs. Apart from the cost of evaporation, prolonged exposure to the vapor can cause health and environmental concerns.

Opportunities

The global data center industry is developing rapidly, and downstream demand in the Data Center Liquid Immersion Cooling industry is strong.

Threat

There is a certain use risk, endangering data security.

Segmentation Overview:

By type, Single Phase Cooling segment accounted for the largest share of market in 2021.

Single Phase Cooling

With single-phase immersion cooling, the server can be installed vertically in a coolant tank of hydrocarbon-based dielectric fluid similar to mineral oil. Like its two-phase counterpart, heat is transferred to the coolant through direct contact with server components. However, unlike two-phase immersion cooling, the coolant does not boil. Instead, it remains in the liquid phase and is cooled by the heat exchanger in the cooling distribution unit (CDU). Many devices that switch to single-phase immersion cooling have left a deep impression on their simplicity, which translates into higher early-stage affordability, easier operation, and less maintenance.

Two Phase Cooling

In a two-phase immersion cooled system, servers are sealed inside a bath of specially engineered fluorocarbon-based liquid. Because the fluid has a low boiling point (often below 50°C vs. 100°C for water), heat from the servers easily boils the surrounding fluid. The boiling of the liquid causes a phase change (from liquid to gas), which gives two-phase immersion cooling its name. The vapor is then condensed back to the liquid form via water-cooled condenser coils, which are integrated into the top of the sealed racks. The condensed liquid drips back into the bath of fluid to be recycled through the system.
