The latest research study on the global ARM-Based Server market finds that the global ARM-Based Server market reached a value of USD 8960.88 million in 2023. It’s expected that the market will achieve USD 24606.88 million by 2029, exhibiting a CAGR of 18.34% during the forecast period.

Linaro to Acquire Arm Forge Software Tools Business

January 30, 2023
Linaro Limited, the UK open source collaborative engineering organization which develops software solutions and provides software development tools and services for the Arm ecosystem, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Arm to acquire those assets relating to the Arm Forge high performance computing (HPC) tools business (Arm Forge). Arm Forge provides leading debug and performance analysis tools across multiple compute architectures for server and HPC applications.

Cloud service providers continue to join the industry

With the change of cloud computing demand and the improvement of ARM system performance and ecological environment, enterprises have gradually turned to ARM architecture, which has led to the increase of the proportion of cloud servers using ARM architecture, and more and more cloud service providers have joined the development of cloud server industry market based on ARM architecture. With the continuous enhancement of ARM processor performance and ecology, the choice of ARM architecture for cloud service providers not only meets the needs of more diverse computing power, but also becomes a powerful weapon in their market competition. Amazon is the first company to bring ARM-based processors to market, in 2018, AWS introduced the first ARM-based self-developed server chip Amazon Graviton, reducing the energy consumption of some workloads to 45%. The launch of Graviton2 at the end of 2019 will increase the cost performance ratio by another 40% for a variety of workloads. AWS also launched Graviton3 in December 2021, using a 5nm process, 64 cores, integrated 55 billion transistors, 2.6Ghz, support for bfloat16, PCIe5.0, performance and power consumption are optimized again. With the same performance, the Graviton3 processor can achieve up to 60% energy savings compared to the same type of x86-based instance. According to a study published by NEC Corporation in mid-2022, building 5G core infrastructure on an instance powered by AWS Graviton processors reduces power consumption by 72% compared to similar xx-based processors. This shows that the ARM-based server can reduce the environmental footprint, and has practical significance of environmental protection and high efficiency in today's energy saving. The success of AWS has also triggered a trend in the industry, and other major cloud providers have actively joined the layout of ARM server projects. Ampere Computer has introduced the first ARM-based Ampere Altra and Altra Max processors. Huawei developed the Kunpeng 920 chip and launched the TaiShan server based on it. Ali also released the server chip Yitian 710, which uses the latest ARM v9 architecture, and plans to apply it in its own servers. The CVM standard SR1 server released by Tencent Cloud at the end of 2021 has a built-in ARM processor - 2.8GHz Ampere Altra processor, which can be used for enterprise-grade applications of various types and scales. Alibaba Cloud also released a similar server, also using Ampere Altra processor, can be used for websites and application servers, game servers and other scenarios. Microsoft, Oracle, Google Cloud and other giants have also launched their own chip plans. Therefore, the rapid development of the current ARM architecture is closely related to the rise of cloud service providers. With more and more cloud service providers and Internet giants joining the industry, it will drive the development of the industry.

Region Overview:

Asia Pacific is projected to account for a considerable share of the ARM-Based Server market and is expected to become the largest region by 2028.

Company Overview:

AWS is one of the major players operating in the ARM-Based Server market, holding a share of 39.94% in 2023.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive and widely used cloud, offering more than 200 full-featured services from data centers around the world. Millions of customers - including the fastest growing startups, largest enterprises, and major government agencies - are using AWS to reduce costs, increase agility, and accelerate innovation.

Segmentation Overview:

Among different product types, 64-Bit Operating System segment is anticipated to contribute the largest market share in 2028.

32-Bit Operating System It is a type of CPU architecture with the ability to transfer 32-bit data. It refers to the amount of data and information that your CPU can easily process while performing an action. Ideally, approximately 232 memory addresses can be accessed. It is equivalent to 4 GB (gigabytes) of physical memory, or RAM. It can also access more than 4 GB of physical memory, but it is not as efficient.

64-Bit Operating System 64-bit microprocessors allow computer systems to process information, data, and memory addresses represented by 64-bit bits. Ideally, about 264 memory addresses can be accessed. It is equivalent to 18 Quintillion bytes of physical memory, or RAM. In short, it can easily handle any amount of memory greater than 4 GB.

Application Overview:

By application, the HPC segment occupied the biggest share from 2018 to 2022.

Arm-based server products are particularly well suited for optimization in the cloud for specific workloads due to their low power consumption, high performance, and high flexibility, so it is suitable for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, 3D graphics, Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing, big data analytics, and more.
