Nicaragua has much in common with its Central American neighbous except that it was the one country in the Isthmus to have experienced a successful socialist revolution. While this may seem as being of only historic interest it still has relevance today in tthe lower rate of gun violence compared to the triangle of deathto its north (Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala). A mjor feature of the economies of those three countries is reliance on remittances which are much lower in Nicaragua due to less emigration.
