The global Sulfur Concrete market size is predicted to grow from US$ 54.7 million in 2025 to US$ 70.2 million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.3% from 2025 to 2031.
Sulfur concrete is a composite construction material, composed mainly of sulfur and aggregate (generally a coarse aggregate made of gravel or crushed rocks and a fine aggregate such as sand).
Sulfur concrete is a special type of concrete. Its preparation process and construction method are very different from ordinary concrete, and it is mainly used in some special projects and application fields. Sulfur undergoes allotropic transformation at different temperatures, which causes volume changes and shrinkage stresses. In order to prevent this transformation and improve the performance of sulfur concrete, it is usually necessary to add polysulfide rubber to sulfur as a toughening agent to improve its durability and performance. Sulfur concrete needs to be constructed at higher temperatures. Sulfur itself needs to be melted and dehydrated at a temperature of 130-150°C, while stone powder and aggregate also need to be heated, generally not exceeding 60°C, in order to maintain the thermal state of sulfur. The pouring and forming process of sulfur concrete is quite different from ordinary concrete. Sulfur concrete requires continuous pouring, with interruptions resulting in incomplete forming. During the pouring process, stones should be exposed at the horizontal construction joints of each layer so as to join with the previous layer. In the construction of sulfur concrete, pouring holes are usually reserved, and the thickness of each layer of stones should not exceed 40cm. The placement of these seams and holes helps release the shrinkage stress of the sulfur concrete and enables good bonding between layers. The raw materials of sulfur concrete include sulfur, stone powder, polysulfide rubber and coarse aggregate. The amount of raw materials per cubic meter of sulfur concrete is usually between 550-600kg of sulfur, 350-400kg of stone powder, 23-48kg of polysulfide rubber and 1400-1600kg of coarse aggregate.
