Silk acid is a new type of chemically modified silk protein material obtained by carboxylating some of the amino acid side chains in silk fibroin through chemical modification methods. By controlling the reaction conditions, the degree of carboxylation modification of silk acid can be precisely controlled, with the highest modification degree reaching about 11%, that is, approximately 11 carboxyl functional groups are grafted on every 100 amino acid residues. Silk acid material is considered an ideal material for tissue filling due to its good biocompatibility, adjustable mechanical properties and biodegradation speed, as well as its ability to promote tissue regeneration. The currently approved materials for tissue filling are mainly based on hyaluronic acid and collagen, which require chemical cross-linking technology to improve the mechanical properties of the material and extend the degradation cycle. The use of chemical cross-linking agents will bring corresponding toxic side effects and lead to adverse immune reactions.
