The Radio Altimeter Test Set is a flight line test set instrument used to test radio altimeters through linear altitude simulation. Radio altimeters are used to measure the distance between the ground terrain and the aircraft. Today, radio altimeters are the primary altimeters used on aircraft and are mainly divided into pulse altimeters and FMCW altimeters. Pulse radio altimeters send and receive radio pulse signals, interpreting the round-trip time as a function of distance, just like a pulse radar operation. In the FMCW method, the frequency deviation of the transmitted and received signals is used to determine the altitude of the aircraft.
