Global Photoresist Strippers Market Growth 2025-2031

Global Photoresist Strippers Market Growth 2025-2031

The global Photoresist Strippers market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1001 million in 2025 to US$ 1652 million in 2031; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.7% from 2025 to 2031.

Photoresist strippers can remove unwanted photoresist. The goal is to remove the photoresist material from the product as quickly as possible without allowing the photoresist surface material to be corroded by the chemicals used.

Photoresist, also known as photoresist, is a light-sensitive mixed liquid composed of photoinitiators (including photosensitizers, photoacid generators), photoresist resins, monomers, solvents and other additives (surfactants, leveling agents, etc.). It is an etch-resistant film material whose solubility in the developer solution will change after being irradiated or exposed to ultraviolet light, electron beams, ion beams, X-rays, etc.

In the photolithography process, the photoresist is evenly coated on the substrate, and after processes such as exposure (local light irradiation produces a latent image, changing the solubility of the local photoresist), development (using a developer to dissolve the modified photoresist) and etching, the pattern on the mask is transferred to the substrate to form a geometric pattern that completely corresponds to the mask. At the end of patterning (i.e. after coating, imaging, ion implantation and etching of the photoresist layer), the photoresist residue needs to be completely removed before the next process step can be performed. Ion bombardment during the doping step hardens the photoresist polymer, making the photoresist less soluble and more difficult to remove.

Asia-Pacific is the largest market, has a share about 90%, followed by North America and Europe, with share 3% and 1.8%, separately.

The photoresist stripper market is experiencing significant growth, driven by the increasing demand for efficient and precise removal of photoresist in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Photoresist strippers are used in semiconductor production to remove photoresist used in the photolithography process to ensure the precise execution of the next process. The current major suppliers in the market, such as DuPont, Dongjin Semichem, Merck, Tokyo Ohka Kogyo, and Nagase ChemteX Corporation, provide a variety of strippers, including solvent-based and chemical reaction-based products. These strippers are designed to improve removal efficiency, reduce damage to silicon wafers, and meet strict environmental and safety standards. Due to the continuous upgrading of semiconductor processes, the performance requirements of strippers are also increasing.

It is difficult for new entrants to enter this market. On the one hand, semiconductors have relatively high requirements for the purity and technology of photoresist strippers, so the price is relatively high; on the other hand, the use of photoresist strippers accounts for a relatively small proportion of the entire semiconductor industry processing flow, so the situation of low consumption and high sales revenue has been formed. From the perspective of manufacturers, the core manufacturers of photoresist strippers worldwide mainly include DuPont, Dongjin Semichem, Merck, Tokyo Ohka Kogyo and Nagase ChemteX Corporation, etc. In 2023, the share of major manufacturers exceeded 60%.

Looking ahead, as the semiconductor industry develops towards smaller size and higher integration chips, the requirements for the accuracy of photolithography processes and the performance of strippers will continue to increase, which will promote the development of more efficient and lower loss stripper technology.
