Global Microturbine Generators Market Growth 2023-2029
The global Microturbine Generators market size is projected to grow from US$ 140.1 million in 2022 to US$ 267.5 million in 2029; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 267.5 from 2023 to 2029.
The key manufacturers of Microturbine Generators in the world are Capstone, Ansaldo Energia, Bladon Micro Turbines, Micro Turbine Technology, Ennpower, FlexEnergy and Brayton Energy, among which the market share of the top three manufacturers is more than 70%, and the largest manufacturer is Ansaldo Energia. The global production of microturbine generators is mainly distributed in North America, Europe and China, among which the market share of the top three production regions is more than 90%. At present, North America is the largest production region. In terms of its products, less than 30 kW accounts for nearly 80% of the market share, followed by 30 to 100 kW, 101 to 300 kW and more than 300 kW. As far as its application is concerned, the power is a major field of its application, with a market share of more than 60%, followed by the oil and gas industry and transportation.
Microturbines are small gas turbines, about the size of a refrigerator, with a stand-alone output of less than 1000kW. They evolved from car and truck turbochargers, aircraft auxiliary power units (APUs) and small jet engines.
High-velocity exhaust gases from the combustor spin the turbines used in microturbines. The basic principle of how a microturbine works is that the compressor and generator are mounted on the same power shaft as the turbine. Therefore, the compressor and generator also rotate together with the turbine. The generator spins at the same speed as the turbine and generates electricity. Electricity is first provided to power conditioning equipment and then supplied to the area where it is needed. The burner is supplied with gaseous fuel by a gas compressor. The compressor also supplies fresh compressed air to the combustion chamber through a recuperator. Here, the heat exchanger plays an important heat exchanger role. It absorbs heat from the hot gases from the turbine. It then provides this heat to the compressed air from the compressor. Therefore, the air supplied to the burner is hot and compressed. This helps improve the overall efficiency of the cycle.
Microturbine systems offer many advantages over reciprocating engine generators, such as higher power density (relative to footprint and weight), very low emissions, and few or only one moving part. Those designed with foil bearings and air cooling do not require oils, coolants or other hazardous substances. Microturbines also have the advantage of containing most of the waste heat in the relatively high-temperature exhaust, whereas a reciprocating engine's waste heat is distributed between its exhaust and cooling system.
