Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance).

The U.S. Air Force elaborated on ISR in the book "Air Force Doctrine on Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Operations":

Intelligence refers to the collection, processing, synthesis, analysis, evaluation and further research results of relevant information about hostile countries or regions, and is information about the enemy obtained through observation, investigation, analysis or inference. The U.S. Air Force proposed that intelligence activities are mainly used to understand the capabilities of foreign armies and some political groups, the development of politics, society and technology or the situation in a specific region.

Surveillance refers to the systematic and comprehensive observation of air, ground, surface and underwater areas, personnel and other things through visual, auditory, electronic, photographic or other means. The U.S. Air Force emphasizes that surveillance activities are single or a series of actions with a long residence time and uninterrupted collection, which is a continuous action.

Reconnaissance refers to various actions taken through various detection means to obtain information about the actions and resources of the enemy (potential enemy), or data on characteristics such as meteorology, hydrology, geography, etc. that involve one's own security in a specific area. The US Air Force believes that reconnaissance operations should be completed in a short period of time. Generally, it is to collect information on a single target in a short period of time through a collection method without staying on the target or in a designated area.

ISR operations refer to a series of activities that are carried out through the collaboration of all resources of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to collect, process, utilize and distribute accurate and real-time battlefield information necessary for planning and guiding operations. The basic task of ISR is to provide intelligence information to decision makers at all levels of command to help them grasp the battlefield situation as comprehensively as possible.

Global Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance core manufacturers include Elbit Systems, L3Harris Technologies, General Dynamics, Thales Group, Boeing and CACI, etc. The top five manufacturers account for approximately 35% of the global share. L3Harris Technologies is the world's largest intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance manufacturer, with a market share of approximately 11%.

In terms of product types, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance occupy a dominant position, accounting for 55% of the market share. At the same time, in terms of applications, air is the largest application air, accounting for 51%.

In recent years, with the deepening of C5ISR, ISR providers have also listed network services as a separate branch. The definition of network services varies from company to company, and is even relatively vague, but the growth trend of network services is relatively clear and stable. Therefore, this report refers to the situation of major ISR service providers and separates network services as a small category. Network services account for about 5% of the overall ISR business. Currently, major global companies include L3Harris Technologies, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Elbit Systems, Thales Group and Boeing.
