Paraformaldehyde is slightly soluble in alcohols and insoluble in ethers, hydrocarbons, and carbon tetrachloride.Paraformaldehyde after depolymerization results in the formation of formaldehyde in solution which can be used as a fumigant, disinfectant, fungicide, fixative. Paraformaldehyde reacts with either phenol, urea, melamine or resorcinol to produce resin. It is also used in the production of inks of a wide array of ink applications like dollar bills, books, and other printing materials.
