The high bandwidth coherent driver modulator is an OIF compliant integrated component for coherent applications featuring a four channel modulator driver IC co-packaged with two nested modulators designed to modulate both the amplitude and phase polarization of the modulator. input light. The Mach-Zehnder structure embeds semiconductor optical amplifiers and can be used to reduce insertion loss or balance power in both polarizations. The device has two SOAs per polarization and is current controlled. This configuration allows the design of a transceiver with a single laser splitter between the transmitter and the local oscillator. The temperature of the InP modulator is controlled by a thermoelectric cooler. The control of the modulator is through the analog voltage input of the module. The control of the driver is through the SPI digital control interface, plus the analog control signal. The device features a monitoring photodiode that detects power and provides feedback to the control loop.
