The first one is based on the recommendation of the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15, the wood that is used to package materials, such as pallets, require a less intense temperature for treatment. Generally, the temperature is around 133°F (56°C), and the duration is about 30 minutes. In this case, HT wood can stop the spread of insects and disease through international trade.
The second one is thermal modification of the wood. It needs to treat the wood for a certain period of time in a low oxygen environment of 160°C ~ 230°C. This time periods can reach to 96 hours. This heat treatment can improve the dimensional stability of the wood, remove or slow down the internal stress of the wood, and at the same time improve the preservative properties of the wood.
