Focused ion beam microscope is an instrument that uses a high-energy ion beam to scan the sample surface to achieve nanoscale imaging, etching, and deposition. Liquid metal ion sources (such as gallium ions) are used to generate field-induced ion emission under the action of a strong electric field to form an ion beam. Through an electric field lens system, the ion beam is focused to the nanoscale to achieve high spatial resolution. The high-energy ion beam scans the sample surface, exciting secondary electrons and secondary ions, and detects these signals to obtain an electron image, thus achieving imaging. The image resolution of commercial models has reached up to 4nm, which is not as good as scanning electron microscopes and transmission electron microscopes, but it has advantages in the analysis of fixed-point structures. Compared with scanning electron microscopes, focused ion beam microscopes do not require specimen preparation for the analysis of fixed-point structures, making them more economical.
