The position of the spool determines the speed and pressure of the liquid through the valve. Changes in the position of the spool cause changes in the flow of fluid in the valve, thereby adjusting the movement of the hydraulic actuator (hydraulic cylinder or hydraulic motor). By controlling the position of the spool, precise speed and position control can be achieved.
