Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings can be deposited by different techniques such as PVD arc, PVD sputtering and PACVD processes. Hydrogenated amorphous carbon is most commonly applied by plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD), and most hydrogen-free coatings use physical vapor deposition (PVD), which produces tetrahedral amorphous carbon by arc evaporation.
