Global Cold Field Emission Electron Gun Market Growth 2024-2030
The cold field emission electron gun (CFE) is an electron gun that uses specific materials to directly emit electrons through an electric field under low temperature conditions. It uses the field emission phenomenon generated by strengthening the electric field on the metal surface. Specifically, when a metal surface in a vacuum is subjected to a sufficiently strong electric field, electrons can directly "tunnel" through a narrow energy barrier and leave the cathode to form an electron beam. The cathode is usually made of a thin tungsten wire, and single-crystalline tungsten is welded on the tungsten wire. The tip curvature radius of the single-crystalline tungsten is about 100nm to provide a sharp emission surface. A metal extraction electrode is set opposite the emitter, and a positive voltage of thousands of volts is applied. Due to the tunneling effect, electrons are emitted from the emitter, and these electrons form an electron beam through the small holes on the extraction electrode. Cold field emission electron guns have been widely used in scanning electron microscopes (SEMs) and other instruments that require high-resolution imaging.
The global Cold Field Emission Electron Gun market size is projected to grow from US$ million in 2024 to US$ million in 2030; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of %from 2024 to 2030.

The cold field emission electron gun has the characteristics of small electron source emission area, good electron beam focusing, low energy divergence, and high beam current density, which makes it have the advantages of high spatial resolution, high brightness and good monochromaticity. These technical advantages make the cold field emission electron gun have great development potential in the field of high-resolution instruments. The cold field emission electron gun is widely used in the fields of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) for measuring the atomic structure and chemical properties of samples, scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) with both scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope functions. Especially in cryo-transmission electron microscope, the cold field emission electron gun is the best choice because of its low cathode temperature. The cold field emission electron gun occupies an important position in the electron gun market due to its technical advantages and wide application fields.
