Cast AlNiCo magnets are produced by traditional casting process. First, raw materials with different compositions are melted and poured into sand molds, and then the blanks are heat treated, cooled and tempered. The hard magnetism of AlNiCo magnets originates from a two-phase nanocomposite structure composed of a ferromagnetic FeCo-rich phase and a nonmagnetic AlNi-rich phase formed by high-temperature homogeneous amplitude modulation decomposition. The FeCo phase has the highest saturation magnetization and high Curie temperature so far, but the magnetocrystalline anisotropy is very low, which is not enough to induce strong coercive force. Since the magnetic properties depend on the different saturation magnetization of the two phases and the shape anisotropy of the ferromagnetic phase, in order to obtain high coercivity and remanence, AlNiCo alloys must have columnar crystals with reasonable orientation and high magnetic anisotropy . The Curie temperature of AlNiCo magnets can reach 890°C, which has excellent temperature resistance, high temperature stability and corrosion resistance. It is still widely used in the automotive industry, instrumentation, electroacoustics, teaching, aerospace and military, etc. field.
