Biliary plastic stent is a medical device used to treat biliary obstruction. It is a soft plastic catheter that is placed inside the biliary tract to restore or maintain the patency of the biliary tract. When biliary obstruction occurs, bile cannot flow properly into the duodenum, causing bile to accumulate in the duct, causing jaundice, abdominal pain, and other symptoms. Biliary plastic stents are usually placed in the patient"s biliary tract by means of endoscopy or percutaneous puncture. Once the stent is placed at the site of the obstruction, it expands and remains in the biliary tract, keeping the duct open. The design of the stent allows bile to flow smoothly through the obstruction site and restore normal biliary excretion function.
