Global Bidirectional Power Supply Market Growth 2023-2029

Global Bidirectional Power Supply Market Growth 2023-2029

Bidirectional power supplies typically combine AC-DC converters, DC-DC converters, and regenerative electronic loads in a rack-mount unit enclosure. The most common bidirectional power supply voltages on the market are 80V-1500V, below 80V and 1500V-2000V, and the power ranges are 5KW-30KW, 30KW-75KW, 75-105KW, etc. A traditional electronic load converts the energy delivered to it into heat. At high power levels, large heat sinks are required for proper thermal management. Conversely, a regenerative electronic load in a bidirectional power supply can return most of the electronic energy sent to it back to a source, such as the grid or battery. It can perform so-called two-quadrant power tests, operating simultaneously as a power supply and as an electronic load or receiver. By returning electricity rather than converting it to heat, bidirectional DC power supplies achieve greater efficiency and can handle higher power levels in a smaller size and weight than traditional separate power supplies and electronic loads. Some commercial bidirectional DC power supplies can operate at 90% efficiency or higher, which means that only 10% of the test power is lost as heat or wasted energy. This also usually translates to a lower operating cost for a bidirectional power supply than for a separate DC power supply and load at a given power level. The bidirectional power supply can be programmed for different modes of operation, including constant voltage (CV), constant current (CC), constant power (CP), and constant resistance (CR). The parameter of interest remains constant by automatically adjusting other parameters. Bidirectional DC power supplies can evaluate how changes in supply voltage, current, or power affect DUT performance. For example, for any mobile electronic device operating on battery power, a rechargeable battery with a low state of charge (SOC) may suffer from voltage dips as its stored energy decreases. Bidirectional DC power supplies are often used in CV or CC mode to simulate a DUT's rechargeable battery to better understand how a device or circuit will behave when its voltage fluctuates or drops below its nominal operating current or power level. The use of CV or CC mode also allows rechargeable batteries to be tested without the danger of overcharging or overheating the battery being tested. A regenerative load within the bidirectional DC power supply allows unused power from the DUT to be returned to its power source for high operating efficiency. Due to its bidirectional capability, the regenerative DC power supply simplifies the testing of components such as motor inverters, batteries, bidirectional on-board chargers (BOBCs), and bidirectional DC-DC converters without the need to test reverse current like traditional DC power supplies Toggle connections. As an example of power testing versatility and high efficiency, Elektro-Automatik's EA-PSB 10000 30 kW programmable bidirectional DC power supply saves on separate power supplies and electronic loads by integrating them with a versatile function generator. Weight and dimensions in a single 4U high, 19 inches. Rack mount enclosure. The devices in this series are rated for a maximum voltage of 60 to 2000 VDC, a maximum current rating of 40 to 1000 A, and each device has a power rating of up to 30 kW. An example of this series we carry is the EA PSB10080-1000, which provides 30 kW of power and 80V. To facilitate connection to the grid worldwide, the bidirectional DC power supply contains an active power factor correction (PFC) circuit, designed for three-phase connection to power between 380 to 480 VAC and 208-VAC, suitable for use in the United States For those who prefer A person who controls settings on devices that provide knobs for adjusting voltage, current, power, and resistance, as well as a 5-inch diameter color thin-film transistor (TFT) touchscreen. Chroma's 62000D Series Programmable Bidirectional DC Power Supplies come in smaller enclosures, each housed in a 3U high, 19" wide rack mount enclosure. The series includes units with maximum voltage ratings from 100 to 1800 VDC, maximum currents from 40 to 540 A, and maximum powers from 6 to 18 kW, which can be used as regenerative loads or power sources and automatically switch from power source to detection of exceeding the programmed power. load at a flat voltage. An example of this series we carry is the Chroma 62180D-1800, which offers a wide input power range from three-phase 200Vac to 480Vac input. Multiple units can be interconnected in parallel and series (master/slave control) to achieve output test levels up to 180 kW. These programmable bidirectional DC power supplies provide better than 91% typical source and load (sink) efficiency for low power models; for most models, voltage can be set to 10-mV resolution and current can be set to 10-mA resolution . Voltage regulation on most models is within ±0.01% of full scale (FS), while current remains within ±0.05% FS on most models. These units feature near-instant transition from source to load characteristics, a typical transient response time of 1.5 ms, and support flexible voltage and current slew rate control with built-in auto-sequencing. Keysight's RP79000 Series regenerative power systems are bidirectional power supplies equipped with safety mechanisms to protect the DUT and operator. These compact rack mount units are available for 200/208 VAC or 400/480 VAC input power and maximum ratings of 2000 VDC, 800 A and 20 kW. They can draw up to 100% of rated current for extended periods of time without degrading output power characteristics when transferring from source to load. Noise and ripple are less than 200 mA in CC mode for all models. An example of this series we carry is the Keysight RP7935A, which offers a voltage range of 0 to 80V and a current range of 0 to 250A.
