Aluminum fluoride trihydrate is a colorless triclinic crystal white powder, while anhydrous aluminum fluoride is a large hexagonal crystal with a hexagonal structure and is an ionic crystal. Density 2.88g/cm3, melting point 1040 ℃, boiling point 1291 ℃; Insoluble in cold water, soluble in hot water, insoluble in acid and alkali solutions, and insoluble in most organic solvents; There is no reaction when heated with liquid ammonia or concentrated sulfuric acid, or when melted with potassium hydroxide. The chemical properties are very stable, and it does not decompose when heated until it sublimates. Currently, over 95% of industrial aluminum fluoride is used in the aluminum industry as an additive in cryolite alumina solution. It can not only compensate for the loss of alumina in the electrolyte, but also reduce the molecular ratio of the electrolyte, lower the initial crystallization temperature of the electrolyte, and control the thermal balance during aluminum electrolysis. It is an essential raw material for the electrolytic aluminum industry.
