Chlorobenzene Market - Forecasts from 2024 to 2029

Chlorobenzene Market - Forecasts from 2024 to 2029

The chlorobenzene market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.28% during the forecast period.

Chlorobenzene is a colorless, flammable chemical with an aromatic odor. It does not occur naturally. Chlorobenzene is used in multiple industries. It is used as a solvent for some pesticide formulations, to degrease automobile parts, and as a chemical intermediate to make several other chemicals. A few factors driving the market's growth include increasing demand for nitrochlorobenzene and the surging application of chlorobenzene in the chemical industry.

Another driving factor behind chlorobenzene's market growth is its application in cosmetic products. It dissolves with other substances and is widely used in natural-based beauty products. The increased demand for cosmetics from the growing economies of Asia Pacific and Africa would increase the supply of chlorobenzene. Chlorobenzene is also used to manufacture rubber, adhesives, and paints. Growing demand for rubber in manufacturing products such as gloves, tires, hoses, belts, and cables further drives the market growth.
In 2023, China's export value of basic chemical raw materials was US$95.35 billion, that of synthetic materials was US$34.08 billion, and that of rubber products was US$57.52 billion. The number suggests the size of the chemical industry in China.
The production of pharmaceutical specialties and other pharmaceutical products in Germany was 31,876.386 million euros in 2022 and increased to 32,176.736 million euros in 2023. The total production of paints and thinners was 2,124,757 tons in 2022 and 2,035,573 in the country. Pharmaceutical raw materials production was 4,844.092 million euros in 2022 and 4,664.429 million euros in 2023. Dyes and pigments production was 3.7 billion euros in 2023.
The chemical industry in Japan accounted for just over 10% of the entire manufacturing industry in terms of the number of business establishments, that is, approximately 20,000. The number of employees was approximately 950,000, product shipments valued at approximately 46 trillion yen, and added value of approximately 18 trillion yen, making this industry indispensable for the economy and employment. Japan is one of the major producers of chemicals in the world. The important strength of the chemical industry is that multiple products are produced simultaneously in one process, known as co-products.
The chemical industry in the United States was $486 billion in 2022. This industry supports more than 25 percent of the total U.S. GDP. The United States is the world’s second-largest chemical producer, and 13% of the world’s chemicals come from the country. America’s largest exporting sector, accounting for more than 9 percent of U.S. exports.

CHLOROBENZENE MARKET DRIVERS:

Growing usage in the pharmaceutical industry

The market for pharmaceuticals has been increasing worldwide due to increasing chronic disease aliment and growing fear of infectious disease spread. In the United Kingdom, £355m revenue was collected, according to the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry in 2023.

Chlorobenzene is applied in multiple drug usage with different uses. For instance, dinitrochlorobenzene is used in trials studying the treatment of HIV Infections, and chlorinated bisphenol antiseptic is used as a surgical scrub and skin cleanser. It is combined with toluene to remove parasites from domestic pets, including ascarids, tapeworms, and hookworms. It is being used as an antibacterial agent and antipsychotic drug for some mental health problems. Growing mental health problems could lead to the growth of these drugs such as cariprazine. Chlorobenzene is used in many pharmaceutical intermediates.
Multiple uses in the chemical industry

Chlorobenzene has been used in multiple applications in the chemical industry. These are used in large quantities for manufacturing as a raw material for DTT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane), an organochlorine insecticide. DTT controls insects in homes, gardens, and crop and livestock production. Further, it is used for the treatment of malaria. Additionally, use of chlorobenzene is used as a solvent in paints, adhesives, polishes, waxes, and natural rubber.

These products have wider applications in many industries like manufacturing, construction, automobiles, etc. Chlorobenzene is also used as a dry cleaning agent and an intermediate in synthesizing organic chemicals. It is used as an intermediate in producing commodities such as herbicides, dyestuffs, and rubber. Herbicides have a growing application in organic food production. Rubber has important applications in multiple industries, especially in the automotive industry.
Increase in nitrochlorobenzene demand

Nitrochlorobenzene has multiple applications in many industries, especially in dyes, pigments, and pharmaceuticals. For the production of dyes and pigments, application is the major sector application for nitrochlorobenzene. Pharmaceutical applications follow it. Other applications included agrochemicals, polymer, rubber chemicals, antioxidants, oil additives, and dapsone. p-Chloronitrobenzene is used to manufacture p-nitrophenol, p-nitroaniline, p-aminophenol, phenacetin, acetaminophen, parathion, etc. Further, it is used in the production of paracetamol, phenacetin & other drugs. The growth of nitrochlorobenzene would drive the overall chemical industry’s growth, as this is a major intermediary.

Chlorobenzene Market Geographical Outlook
The Asia Pacific region will dominate the chlorobenzene market during the forecast period.

The major countries in the region, like India, China, Japan, Korea, and Australia, play a vital role in rapid economic growth and industrialization. Furthermore, countries of ASEAN, like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia, are experiencing fast economic growth and increasing industrial development.

India's chemical industry sector is the 6th largest producer of chemicals globally and 3rd in Asia, only after China and Japan. The sector contributes 7% to India’s GDP. The chemical sector in India covers 80,000 different commercial products and can be broadly classified into bulk chemicals, specialty chemicals, agrochemicals, petrochemicals, polymers, and fertilizers. Regarding agrochemicals, India ranks as the fourth-largest producer after the United States, Japan, and China. India accounts for 16-18% of the world's production of dyestuffs and dye intermediates.

India's chemical sector was worth US$220 billion in 2022 and is anticipated to grow to US$300 billion by 2025 and US$1 trillion by 2040. An investment of US$107.38 billion is estimated in the Indian chemicals and petrochemicals sector by 2025. This overall investment indicates the dynamics of the industry.

In China, the total import and export volume of the chemical industry was US$952.29 billion. Among them, the total export volume was US$316.53 billion in 2023. The export value of basic chemical raw materials was US$95.35 billion. In 2022, of $153.8 billion in U.S. exports to China, chemicals, plastics, rubber, and leather goods accounted for about 19.5%. These numbers signify the vastness of the chemical industry in the region and its relative application in various other industries.

Chlorobenzene market restraints:

Nitrochlorobenzene is potentially toxic. Prolonged exposure to the chemical could lead to the symptoms of tiredness, loss of appetite, headache, and afternoon fatigue. The workers are required to wear respiratory protection when exposed to higher concentrations. GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals) hazard statements suggest it is dangerous when swallowed, comes in contact with skin, inhaled, and may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. Due to these factors, overall handling, storage, and supply chain become difficult and costly.

Chlorobenzene market key developments:

In July 2023, BASF, Huntsman, Shanghai Hua Yi, Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Chemical Co. Ltd., and Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Co. Ltd. announced separate joint MDI production in Caojing, China. All employees in the joint venture moved to their respective organizations. The companies would operate the two MDI plants located at the site in Caojing, China independently.
