A correction voltage is generated by the signal from the temperature probe in a TCXO and applied to a varactor, which is a voltage-variable reactance. Temperature subsequently induces a frequency change opposite and equal to the frequency change produced by the varactor. Although this method is less expensive than oven control, it is less effective. Consequently, TCXOs are employed when extensive temperature stability is not a prerequisite.
