An agricultural adjuvant refers to any substance that improves the efficiency of pesticides, including but not limited to insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and other agents that control or eliminate unsolicited pests. Like medical adjuvant, agriculture adjuvant isn’t directly responsible for controlling or eliminating pests. These additives instead enable the pesticides to target, penetrate or protect the organism by modifying a particular property of the spray solution. Each of these ingredients enable the spray solution to enhance their properties like penetration, spreading, droplet size and more. Sometimes these additives are incorporated in the formulation with a pesticide. While other times, these are added distinctly to a tank.

Adjuvant can be divided into two parts; at first, In-can adjuvant refers to adjuvant which are incorporated in the pesticide formulations themselves. When these are added distinctly, as and when the spray solution is made, the adjuvant is called tank mix adjuvant. The addition of these tank mix adjuvant can sometimes optimize the performance of the pesticide.
