Worldwide Smartphone Forecast Update, 2023–2027: June 2023
This IDC study presents the updated five-year forecast for smartphone shipments worldwide by operating system. The worldwide smartphone market will reach 1.17 billion units shipped in 2023, down 3.2% from the 1.20 billion units shipped in 2022. From there, shipments will hit 1.35 billion units in 2027, the final year of our forecast period, resulting in a CAGR of 2.3%."Elevated channel inventory and a lack of demand have hit the smartphone market harder than initially expected," said Anthony Scarsella, research director with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers. "Most vendors continue to play it safe regarding inventory levels and their portfolios. Due to many macroeconomic outliers in most regions, a continued lack of demand may have vendors holding off until 2024 to make a major push with new devices and portfolio upgrades."
