This IDC study presents the updated five-year forecast for smartphone shipments worldwide by operating system."The worldwide smartphone market is poised for a return to growth following two years of shipment decline," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Mobile Phones team. "Inflationary and macroeconomic pressures worldwide coupled with higher prices for premium smartphones have forced users to hold on to their current devices longer. This year, we are starting to see the return to growth, first with the influx of low-cost 5G smartphones coming to emerging markets. Following this is a series of high-end smartphone launches coming to market. The timing of this is perfect to capture customers looking to replace their handsets in 2024 and 2025."
