This IDC study sizes and forecasts mobile in-app and in-game advertising and the payout to developers/publishers from that spending, broken down by region and by major ad format. Mobile advertising revenue is additionally broken out by major type, format, and mobile operating system at a global level. Direct mobile game spending and the share of in-game ad revenue that is paid out to mobile game developers/publishers is broken out into four geographic regions as well: North America, Western Europe, Asia/Pacific, and a combined the rest of the world (ROW) region."In-app advertising is the ultimate sweet spot of advertising — not only does it attracts most new advertising spend but also enjoys the network effects of advertising automation," said Karsten Weide, IDC's program VP of Media and Entertainment.
