Worldwide Hard Disk Drive 3Q23 Preliminary Shipment Results
This IDC Market Perspective provides a preliminary unit shipment range for worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) units by HDD drive class and estimated supplier market share for 3Q23."Depressed demand from hyperscale datacenter customers is expected to continue through the remainder of 2023, with some slight improvement in 4Q23 and more noticeable improvement in the first half of 2024," according to Ed Burns, research director, Worldwide Hard Disk Drives at IDC. "Cloud optimization strategies, a shift in capex spending toward compute currently, and reductions in overall capex spending by the cloud service providers are all contributing to a slower than expected drawdown of inventories of HDDs."
