This IDC study presents the worldwide forecast for the number of participants in the gig economy, with participants defined as individuals who earn income through providing services and/or creating content."More than 1 billion consumers participate in the gig economy as providers of services or as content creators," says Greg Ireland, senior research director, Consumer Markets and GenAI for Content Creators and Consumers at IDC. "The gig economy has transformed ways in which consumers can earn income — both primary and supplementary — outside the context of traditional employment and transformed many consumer markets in which services are offered."
