Sustainability-Driven Product Design

Sustainability-Driven Product Design

This IDC Perspective highlights many of the issues related to achieving sustainability-driven product design. Developing environmentally sustainable products is important for both industrial and consumer markets, applying equally to discrete and process manufacturers. A growing number of environmental regulations are driving manufacturers to incorporate LCA capabilities into their PLM processes. According to IDC's worldwide survey of more than 800 product life-cycle management (PLM) and service life-cycle management (SLM) decision makers (May 2021), manufacturers are prioritizing PLM to achieve their most pressing product sustainability goals."Sustainability-driven product design relies on a digital thread across the entire product life cycle to deliver relevant, accurate data about the environmental impact of each decision within the design and development process," said John Snow, research director, Product Innovation Strategies at IDC.
